Afroditi Mouhourtis, 100, of Fleming Island, formerly long time resident of Tarpon Springs, departed her family on February 13, 2021. Afroditi was born in Kalymnos Greece, July 27, 1920 and Immigrated to the United States in 1949. She was married to, Nicholas Demetrios Mouhourtis, her loving husband and devoted life partner for 40 years, until his passing in 1990.
Afroditi was mother to Jimmy and Elaine, both of whom she raised along with her husband, with uncompromised love and devotion. She was beloved mother or, “Mama’” to her two adult children, Jim (Diane) Mouhourtis and Elaine (Slater) Browne; known as, “Yia Yia” to her seven grandchildren, Nick, Christopher, Tanya, Yanni, Fotini, Jimmy and Michael; known as “Great Yia Yia” to her ten great grandchildren, Alexia, Christopher, Evan, Nixon, Haylie, Niko Alexander, Isadora, Joseph and Nicholas; also survived by countless extended family and lifelong friends. Mom, you are so loved by so many, because of the Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Friend and Woman that you were. We love you and will miss you dearly. You will be in our thoughts and hearts forever. May your memory be eternal.
Funeral service will take place at 11:00 am, on Friday, February 19, 2021, at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Interment will follow at Cycadia Cemetery. Vinson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
