April Michele Stone, 57, of Tarpon Springs, Florida passed away November 30, 2024. April was born April 15, 1967, in Topeka Kansas to Marsha White and William Stone. She was a graduate of Tarpon Springs High School, received her Associates Degree from St. Petersburg College, and Galen School of Nursing.
She was born with diabetes and throughout her life had numerous health complications. At the age of 19 she lost her sight. With an experimental treatment at the Kellogg Eye Clinic in Ann Arbor, Michigan, she was able to regain a portion of her vision. Kidney failure followed and she received a double transplant. She was blessed with a new life. She attended college, classes abroad and nursing school with the hope of becoming a diabetic counselor to young people dealing with the challenges of the disease. She was asked to give a speech to a group of 2,000 and the topic was "Living with diabetes as a youth." That confirmed she had made the right choice, but unfortunately a series of health complications arose again and continued for years.
April enjoyed traveling, especially to the mountains of Georgia, Hallmark movies, museums, concerts, everything Rock or Country and the ballet. She always commented that attending one of Baryshnikove's last performances was the ultimate. She looked forward to The Nutcracker every Christmas and it had become a tradition since childhood. April loved her family, especially her sister Rosemary, who was a constant and a great support the past few years. She was also a great mom to her two fur babies, Lulu and Tbear.
April had such a sweet spirit, great sense of humor, infectious laugh and was fearless. She faced every health challenge with strength, grace and courage, never complaining. She was an inspiration to others. Our hearts are broken, but we will treasure our memories of her. Sweet dreams, my precious angel..
She is survived by her mother, Marsha White, Tarpon Springs, FL; sister, Rosemary Stone Dougherty (Brian), NJ; nephew, Alex Dougherty (Taylor), NJ; nieces, Mallorie Worley (Christian), NJ, Ashley Dougherty, NJ, Meadow Dougherty, East Hanover, NJ; brother, Skyler Stone (Daria)FL; aunt, Dawn Dixon, KS; cousin, Jane Howard, NE, and several first and second cousins. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, James White; father, William Stone; grandmother, Jane Bowen; great aunt, Jean Howard; nephew, Brandon Dixon; niece, Amber Dixon.
