It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Costas V. "Deno" Moutsatsos, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, educator, and friend. Deno peacefully passed away on Monday, March 31, 2025, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of love, dedication, and service.
Deno was a man of deep passion and unwavering commitment, devoted to his family, friends, and community. He lived a full and meaningful life, finding joy in the outdoors through activities such as fishing, hunting, and camping. His life was marked by a profound love for others, a strong faith in God, and a firm belief in the transformative power of education. Over his distinguished 36-year career in the Pinellas County school system, Deno served in various roles, including teacher, athletic coach, guidance counselor, and administrator. He profoundly impacted the lives of countless students and colleagues, imparting values of integrity, hard work, passion, and perseverance. Following his retirement from Pinellas County Schools in 1994, Deno continued his service to college students as an Academic Advisor at St. Petersburg College and spent 10 years working as a bellman at Innisbrook Golf Resort.
Above all, Deno was a devoted family man. He was a loving and steadfast husband to his wife, Mary, with whom he shared 54 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a life founded on faith, love, and mutual respect. Deno’s unwavering example of standing firm in his values and nurturing meaningful relationships with his family, friends, and God continues to inspire all who knew him.
Deno’s dedication to service extended beyond his family and career. A proud veteran, he served in the U.S. Army Reserves. His pursuit of education led him to the University of Tampa and the University of Mississippi, where he earned degrees that empowered him to mentor and guide others. His children, Leza Moutsatsos Fatolitis and Basil Moutsatsos, followed in his footsteps, pursuing careers in education and higher learning, thereby continuing the legacy of service and mentorship that Deno held so dear.
Deno is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Moutsatsos; his children, Leza (Peter) Fatolitis and Basil (Rosemarie) Moutsatsos; his cherished granddaughters, Maria Fatolitis and Penelope Moutsatsos; cousin, CJ Peterson; his sister-in-law, Stella Megaloudis; niece, Chrisanthie (Jay) Rondeau; nephew, Gary Megaloudis; great-niece, Michele (Michael) Steffen; great great nephew, Jordan Steffen; and extended Alexander and Moutsatsos families who will forever remember him for his kindness, generosity, and wit.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Tarpon Springs. Deno will be forever remembered for his loving spirit, the lasting impact he made on all who had the privilege of knowing him, and as a devout fan of the University of Florida Gators and the New York Yankees.
May his memory be eternal
