Byron, Dolores M.
BALLSTON LAKE – Dolores M. Byron, died on October 21 2025, at home, surrounded by family. She was 88 years old.
Dolores was born in Buffalo, New York. She attended Annunciation Grade School in Elma and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Lancaster, New York and D’Youville College in Buffalo where she received a Bachelor of Science in Education. She completed her Master’s degree in Education in Reading Education at the State University of New York at Buffalo and completed courses leading to NYS English as a Second Language certification from the State University of New York at Albany. She taught at Como Park Elementary School in Lancaster, N.Y. She traveled to Puerto Rico with her aunt, Sister Sacred Heart (Aunt Dolie), and taught at Madre Cabrini School which was run by the Sisters of St. Francis from Williamsville, N.Y. She returned to the mainland and taught at Kenmore Public Schools in Kenmore, N.Y. before returning to Puerto Rico to teach U.S. military and civilian dependent children at Antilles Consolidated Schools at Roosevelt Roads Naval Air Station and Fort Buchanan in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She met Peter who was also teaching at Fort Buchanan and they married. They returned to Depew, N.Y. where she substitute taught in Depew and Lancaster, N.Y. before relocating to Clifton Park, N.Y. where she substitute taught in Shenendehowa Public Schools and was a teacher of English as a Second Language in Amsterdam, N.Y. from which she retired.
Dolores was the daughter of Henry and Monica Albert. Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, Peter, of fifty-two years. Dolores was also predeceased by her twin sister, Mary, who died at birth, her sister, Judith Hassett, and her brothers, David and Jacob. Dolores is survived by her sons, Sean (Leone) Byron, Kevin Byron and daughter Kelly Fraser. She is also survived by her adoring grandchildren Morgan and Monica Fraser and Heaven, Tyler, and Lyjah (‘adopted’ children of Sean and Leone).
Dolores is also survived by brothers Samuel (Donna), Timothy and sisters Sarah Jaye and Kristina (John) Neuland.
The family were long-time members of the Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Round Lake, N.Y. where Dolores regularly volunteered in both religious education program and with craft shows. Dolores was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader and the President of the Clifton Park Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) volunteers. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and Care Links.
Among her many travels, Dolores most fondly remembered a trip across the U.S. in her Volkswagen Beetle with friend Arlene. They visited many sites along the way. One stop led them to her cousin Lois in California. They left there with gifts of Chihuahua puppies including her puppy, Pico.
Dolores and her husband Peter were members of the Mayfield Yacht Club on the Great Sacandaga Lake and spent many enjoyable summers on the family sailboat. Dolores and Peter spent winters in Cocoa Beach, Ponce Inlet, Hudson and the Florida Keys. They enjoyed cruises and yacht charters in the Florida Keys and the British Virgin Islands as well as ELDERHOSTEL vacations in the United States and Canada.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Services will be held in her hometown of Lancaster, NY, date and time to be determined.
