Don graduated from Miami Edison Senior High School, then he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was deployed to Korea, as a radio repairman. After the service he returned home and married the love of his life, Nancy Carolyn Castleberry, prior to going to college and graduating from the University of Florida. He returned to Miami and started his first job with Sinclair Oil Company, then a firefighter and eventually, what he is known best as, an insurance agent. He attended a few churches but became very active at the First Baptist Church, Tarpon Springs, where he was a deacon and accomplished many things for this church. Don and Nancy did not like to stay put and had owned several homes in Tarpon Springs. In later years, they spent summers in Beech Mountain, NC, where they owned and renovated several homes, including one that he built from scratch with his friend, Nile. He was an avid golfer and a member of Clearwater Country Club, Tarpon Springs Golf Course and Beech Mountain Golf Club. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nancy; two sons, Steve Bennett, and his wife, Connie, and David Bennett; three grandsons, Steven Bennett, Jeffrey Bennett, and his wife, Ciara, and Michael Bennett; one great grandson, JJ Bennett.
