Frances Hobkirk Obituary

Frances Sharpton Hobkirk, 105, of Tarpon Springs, passed away on January 4, 2021. She was born in Monroe, Georgia and came to Plant City as a young girl before moving to Lake Wales. She and her husband, Lawrence, who preceded her in death, lived in Lake Wales on Lake Pierce, for many years and owned Frances Flowers in downtown Lake Wales. They had three children, Louise, Larry and Janyce, who all grew up in Lake Wales. When she had her flower shop, she made the alter flowers at her church for many years and for Thanksgiving she always made a beautiful cornucopia. Just about every holiday, all of her children and grandchildren were called in to help deliver flowers. Many holidays, delicious meals and great fun with family, were had at Grama's house in Lake Wales. Frances was known for having a lead foot, when it came to driving to town on the curvy road or going over the steep hills through the orange groves until we were airborne. After retiring, Frances and Lawrence moved to Naples, where they built a home on the property of their son, Larry and his wife Ruth, where they lived for many years. Of course she became active at her church in Naples and the family gatherings moved to Naples. Frances eventually moved to Tarpon Springs. Everywhere she lived, she was always involved in the Methodist church in that community. She loved to quilt and got together frequently with other ladies who enjoyed quilting, she had to give it up in later years, not sure when that was but probably in her 90's, knowing her. She was our glitsy Mama/Grama, and we are going to miss her dearly. In addition to her husband, Lawrence, she is also preceded in death by her son, Larry and her daughter, Louise. She is survived by her daughter, Janyce (Ken) Kikta and daughter in law, Ruth Hobkirk; eight grandchildren, Tim (Evelyn) Kikta, Michael (Ramy) Boorom, Tamara (Clay) Littlejohn, Michelle (Lee) Hershey, Laura (Glenn) Smeal, Steven (Susan) Kikta, Matthew (Gretchen) Hobkirk, Lisa (Jamie) Kissinger; thirteen great grandchildren, Matt, Jordan, Tanner, Christian, Lindsey, Harrison, Kolin, Kyle, Cameron, Conner, Christopher, Abi, Chase; many loving nieces, nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00, on Saturday, January 9th, at the First United Methodist Church, 501 E. Tarpon Avenue, Tarpon Springs. Interment will follow at 2:30 and take place at West Oaklawn Cemetery in Plant City. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to the First United Methodist Church, 501 E.
