Cianciola, Philip J.
ORANGE CITY, FLORIDA – Philip Joseph Cianciola, died Wednesday, December 27th at Advent Health Hospice Care. He was 99 years old. Philip was born in Utica, New York and attended school in Utica. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1946 as a Staff Sergeant with the 494th Bomb Squadron. He eventually moved to Albany, New York where he met and married Helen Vennard Byron and became stepfather to Michael J. Byron and Peter M. Byron. Phil had a busy career as he worked for an airline and eventually moved to Puerto Rico to begin a career as a civilian employee with the United States Navy. This position resulted in assignments to naval facilities in Norfolk, Virginia and Jacksonville, Florida from which he retired. During retirement, Phil and Helen lived in Cocoa Beach, Florida. After Helen Byron’s death, Phil married Helen Osinski and lived in DeLand, Florida and upon her death, he re-located to John Knox Village in Orange City, Florida. There he resided with his partner, Joan Causland, until her passing in 2022.
Phil was proceeded in death by his stepson Dr. Peter M Byron. He is survived by his stepson, retired Lt. General Michael J. Byron (USMC) (Kathleen) and Dr. Peter M. Byron’s wife, Dolores Byron; step grandchildren, retired Colonel Patrick Byron (USMC) (Attracta), Bridget Byron, Megan Harwin (Alec), Sean Byron (Leone), Kevin Byron, and Kelly Fraser (Christopher); step great-grandchildren, Helen, Ace, Layne, Monica, and Morgan.
Phil was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Deland, Florida. The Byron family would like to thank Advent Health Hospice Care and the wonderful staff at John Knox Village for the fine care Philip received. Philip will be interred at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Troy New York, where his late wife, Helen (Byron) Cianciola is laid to rest. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the ALZHEIMER’S RESEARCH FOUNDATION.
