Syble S. Johns , 93, of New Port Richey, departed this life November 14, 2020, secure in her salvation and at peace with her Lord. While her family and many friends will miss her dearly, she is united at last with her late husband, Raymond G. Johns a decorated Tech Sergeant (Ret) of the U.S. Army Air Corps and the United States Air Force and a veteran of World War II and Korea. Her new journey will bring her home to friends and family long passed, where she will be socializing, dancing, enjoying music, bowling, knitting, playing cards, drinking coffee, reading western novels, and cooking to her hearts content. For Syble, music, laughter, and love are guaranteed in her eternal home.
Syble’s legacy is left behind in her family, for whom she cherished, sacrificed for, nurtured, and hoped. Syble was a dedicated wife and mother first and foremost. She treasured her family and embraced every moment with them. Survivors include her sister Annie Kate Hagan and husband Jerry of Beavercreek, Ohio; sons John H. Johns and his wife Wanda of Holiday, Fl; George Jeffery Johns and his wife Louann of Fairfield, CA; Leonard Wayne Johns and wife Fran of Hudson, FL; daughters April J. Jacobs of Piedmont, SC; Tana J. Trammell and her husband Ricky of Reform, AL; and Wendi P. Junkin and her husband James of Tickfaw, LA. Syble loved dearly her 17 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
Syble was born September 3rd, 1927 in Steinhatchee, Fla to the late John Henry and Nancy Margaret Grisham. A life long house wife and mother, many will remember her work as an election worker at the polls overseeing five presidential elections beginning with president John F. Kennedy. She loved gospel music and enjoyed traveling with Rosie and Betty Rozell and the Searchers where her journeys led her to meet country music legends George Jones and Tammy Wynette. She cared deeply for her friends and neighbors. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was. She regularly cooked and brought meals to those who were sick or bereaved and her house was a house where neighborhood children gathered, always leaving safe, healthy, and happy.
In her later years Syble retired to Trinity Place in New Port Richey, where it suited her servant heart having made many friends that she loved and valued during her time there. Her kindness and willingness to help others extended all of her life and set an example for others. In her loss, just as Jesus did when his friend Lazarus died, “we wept.” Her words of encouragement, wisdom, and comfort kept her family close and can be passed on to her surviving generations. Her acute awareness of the importance of a life lived with the ones you love over any material possessions permeated her days. She was a rare combination of someone who had a love of life and a firm understanding of what was important – the simplicity of living a life with those you love and who love you.
Syble was a strong, determined, and independent woman. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. We who knew her know that she would wish that each of us would spend time with our children, take a walk on the beach with our loved ones, and make a toast to enduring friendships, lifelong and beyond.
A graveside service will be held at 11:30 am, on Monday, November 23 at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, where she will be interred with her late husband, Raymond G. Johns.
Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to a charity of your choice or St Jude Children's Research Hospital.
